Planning a wedding is such an exciting time, but let’s be real—it can also feel a little overwhelming! There are so many decisions to make, and finding the right vendors to bring your vision to life is one of the biggest ones. As a wedding photographer, I’ve worked with so many amazing vendors, and I know firsthand how important it is to have a team you can trust. So, let’s break it down and make this process as stress-free as possible for you!

1. Start with Your Vision and Budget

First things first: sit down with your partner and envision what your ideal wedding looks like. Is it a chic city affair in downtown Baltimore or a rustic celebration in the Maryland countryside? Once you have a clear picture, set a realistic budget. This will guide your decisions and help you focus on vendors who align with both your vision and financial plan. Create the budget based on the most important aspects for your day and don't stretch yourself too think! As a wedding photographer, I believe in cost transperency, all of my prices are shown on my website with the descriptions of what each service includes. I want my Clients to be able to both, see my style as well as the price range for the services. Planning a wedding is stressful already, I am not going to have you jump through the loops just to see a pricing guide.

2. Dive into Local Research

Baltimore and the surrounding Maryland areas are full with talented wedding professionals. Once you have an idea of what you need, start browsing vendor websites, Instagram pages, and online reviews. Seeing real couples’ experiences can give you insight into how reliable, professional, and talented a vendor is. And don’t forget to check how vendors respond to reviews, great customer service is just as important as their work! Already hired a vendor that you love? Ask their opinions and reccomendations for whom they have worked with that would fit your vibe. I like to keep in touch with vendors who flow really well with my Clients and I am always happy to share their info with you.

3. Prioritize Vendor Availability

Popular vendors often book up quickly, especially during peak wedding season! Wedding season can vary based on where you are located, as Maryland wedding photographer I cant tell you that the peak wedding season in our area is between April and June, and then again from September through November - these dates get booked out fast. Once you have your wedding date, reach out to your top-choice vendors to check their availability. This proactive approach ensures you secure the professionals you truly want for your special day. I have had a number of couples who have inquired, then came back to me a few weeks later to want to book me, but those dates were no longer available. And this information is not here to scary you into booking fast, but it's something to keep in the back of your head - until you have a signed contract with a vendor, there is a possibility that your prefered vendor might get booked out.

4. Ask Your Questions

Every vendor handles wedding days differentely, do not hesitate to ask questions about how they handle the day. You want to be comfortable with your team on your big day, a vendor who cannot provide answers to your questions is a red flag! Any experienced vendor should be able to answer your questions, because the job is to keep your day going smoothly. Planning a wedding is stressful and there are a lot of moving pieces, your vendors shouls put you a peace, not make you feel more stressed or confused. I always tell my couples to ask away, even if its tips or thoughts about things that do not directly apply to photography.

5. Review Contracts Thoroughly

Before signing on the dotted line, ensure you understand every aspect of the vendor's contract. Look out for details regarding payment schedules, cancellation policies, and any additional fees. If something isn't clear, don't hesitate to ask for clarification. It's essential to have all terms laid out to avoid any surprises later on.

6. Trust Your Instincts

At the end of the day, your gut feeling plays a significant role. If a vendor feels right and aligns with your vision, that's a strong indicator they're the one for you. Additionally, if something feels off during your interactions, it might be best to continue your search. Remember, this journey is all about creating a day that reflects you and your partner's love story. Surround yourself with vendors who support and enhance that vision. Happy planning, and here's to your beautiful wedding! 🥂

P.S. If you're still on the hunt for a wedding photographer who knows the ins and outs of Maryland's best spots, I'd love to chat and see how we can capture your special day perfectly.
